If you’re in and around Inverness city centre, a flying visit to the award-winning Heathmount Hotel for food is well worth it. Located on Kingsmill Road, the stylish whitewashed hotel is popular with locals and tourists alike, particularly in fine weather when guests can enjoy the splendid sun terrace. Another smash hit with the denizens of Inverness is the Heathmount’s famous Sunday lunch, which is actually served all day long. You can’t go wrong with a hearty Sunday roast layered in gravy... unless you’re vegetarian that is, in which case the alternatives look very appealing. How about sautéed mushrooms in a creamy marsala sauce, topped with garlic crostini? The spicy bean cakes, served with fresh tomato salsa and sour cream, are yet another winner. Desserts, meanwhile, come in the form of vanilla cheesecake with fruit coulis or lemon posset with fruit compote and shortcake. There’s also an excellent sticky toffee pudding and a host of other options. Prices, for the most part, are very reasonable given the quality of the food, much of it crafted from locally sourced ingredients. Perfect for a family meal or a romantic evening out, the Heathmount comes highly recommended.
